Description:
There’s steam traction on its way out, and early green DMU’s coming in. Then a flashback to the 30s, little tank engines hauling 4 and 6 wheel coaches, local passenger trains in Silloth and rare colour film of Coronation Scots at Carlisle.
See Liverpool Street Station in 1932 with commuter trains moving in and out and then on to wartime; NE A4’s in black livery, & Class 78 Electrics. The Belfast 5’3” gauge to Larne.
There are many 1950s scenes including steam sheds, DEMU’s taking over from Southern LOCOS and the Stanmore to Harrow steam branch is shown. In the 1960s, KESR is taken over by the preservationists, while A4s go into retirement. There are Barry Isle scenes, trains at Euston, Paddington and Clapham, and industrials and the last Brighton Belle. Class 52 Westerns and Deltic diesels are already on the way out. King George visits Paddington, and finally a glorious Bullied locomotive is re-born in preservation.
Classic archive footage of steam and diesel trains from the 1930s to the late 1980s.
